(40% Indica / 60% Sativa)
Trainwreck is a Sativa-dominant hybrid strain of cannabis with a unique taste reminiscent of vanilla & caramel. Like many Sativa hybrids Trainwreck provides a very intense cerebral high with effects that are mood enhancing and euphoric. This strain was supposedly the creation of two Californian brothers back in the late 1970s. It is a mix of three other strains Thai (Sativa), Mexican (Sativa) and Afghani (Indica). In its true form, Trainwreck is ninety percent Sativa and only ten percent Indica. As the story goes the two brothers had to pull their crop early because there was a nasty train wreck that happened near their grow site and they didn't want it discovered, thus the name.
Trainwreck can grow well both indoors and outdoors. Plants of this strain grow fairly tall but the Indica in them causes them to fill out well. Inside grown in hydro a single plant can yield up to 500 grams in a square meter. When grown in soil outside Trainwreck plants are ready for harvesting early October and can yield 700-900 grams.
The aroma of Trainwreck can be of vanilla, spicy Kush, cedar wood and sour fruit while its taste has notes of citrus, diesel, noble woods and peppery spices. THC production is approximately 15-19% with very low O.1% CBD.
The effect hits like a train, is long-lasting and evolves into a narcotic body stone. Trainwreck is a mind-bending hybrid with potent sativa effects. Mexican and Thai sativas were bred with Afghani indicas to produce this Northern California staple. Trainwreck begins its speedy hurtle through the mind with a surge of euphoria, awakening creativity and happiness. Don’t be fooled by its sativa genetics though, couchlock is inevitable with this strain ( not typical of sativas), so plan accordingly.
Migraines, pain, and arthritis are mowed down by Trainwreck’s high THC content, and many patients also use it for relief of anxiety, ADD/ADHD, PTSD & epilepsy.
Let Trainwreck grow large(because she will despite your best efforts). Put this plant in a big pot with healthy soil, prune it, top it, trellis it, and grow a Northern California giant. As always when growing big plants, expect big stretches and the need for loads of water and nutrients, and eventually staking to prevent branches from snapping.
Flowering Time: 7-8 weeks - Trichomes start to turn at 7.5wks & can turn fast. She finishes Quicker than most, 60-80% amber by 8.5wk
Grow Difficulty: Easy
Nutrient load: This strain can handle a full nutrient load...and then some. A real nutrient hog that likes things on the acidic side of the "sweet spot" pH window. TrainWreck does best at 6.5-6.6 in soil / 6.2-6.3 in hydro.
Can handle a range of temperatures while still growing successfully, but ideally keep this strain between 68 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Indoor/Outdoor: A great outdoor strain due to its early finish and vigorous growth. Equally impressive indoor though slightly lighter yields, as is true with most strains. There is no comparison to natural sunlight.
Feeding: Start with nutrient-rich soils and fill in the gaps by feeding Trainwreck with calcium, magnesium, and nitrogen. Top dress your soil with amendments such as bat guano and worm castings as Trainwreck begins to flower. Flush early as this plant can finish sooner than expected.
(60% Indica / 40% Sativa)
Much as the name implies, it is safe to assume that Banana Kush is actually reminiscent of bananas. As expected, this is 100 percent true, but this cannabis even ups the ante a little further by not only smelling like freshly ripe bananas, but also by tasting like them. This exotic and tropical marijuana is juicy and uplifting, truly becoming a source of joy and delight for those who try consuming it. Even better, it has a unique and powerful history, by being related to other marijuana strains with equally as much impact upon the cannabis world. What just seems to top it all off, is that Banana Kush’s effects might end up shocking you- the way this herb makes you feel is completely different than its strain classification, but you’ll just have to keep reading to find out exactly what we mean…
What Is the Banana Kush Cannabis Strain?:
Originating from the West Coast and now rising up to become one of the Top 100 cannabis strains on the market, Banana Kush has honestly made a powerful name for itself, which is not so surprising when you take a look at this crop’s parental lineage. Being the offspring of two other marijuana classics, Ghost OG hybrid and Skunk Haze hybrid, the way that Banana Kush expresses its lineage is not only unique, but also extremely beneficial for certain types of individuals who have discovered solace with the help of this plant. A little goes a very long way with this marijuana, because its THC levels often reach upwards of 27%, with most lab results falling between 16-23%.
Banana Kush is technically classified as an indica dominant hybrid, with a 60% indica, 40% sativa ratio, but its effects do not represent its classification accurately. What Banana Kush can do to your mind and body might surprise you, especially if you are expecting the cannabis strain to make you fall asleep. Yes, it will certainly relax your mind and body, but in a more creative, motivational way, that will rather remove stress and clear the head so that outlets of pursuit and prolific inspiration can be discovered. Because of its abilities to spark imaginative and innovative drive, it has become a favorite amongst artists across California, the West Coast and the rest of America. Chances are, if you interviewed an art community about what their favorite, go-to cannabis strain is, there’s a fair chance they would exclaim, “Banana Kush!”.
Banana Kush Aroma, Flavor and Appearance:
As explained earlier, both the aroma and flavor of Banana Kush distinctly mimic the smell of a fresh bundle of bananas growing, ready to be picked for harvest. Aside from this dominating scent, the aroma of Banana Kush marijuana is also packed with hints of other tropical tree fruits, featuring elements of pungent skunkiness, which could be related to the crop’s Skunk Haze genetic relation.
The flavor is also a bit pungent and earthy, but the overall impactful taste that seems to hit the tongue, is a rich, delicious sweet one- making it pleasant to consume this cannabis strain. Not only is the flavor sweet, when being smoked Banana Kush also effortlessly travels down the throat, with no harsh, hard hitting effects, so you won’t have to worry about coughing up a lung after you take a snap of this cannabis.
The smoke literally feels like silk. Appearance wise, Banana Kush looks electric! The buds are neon green with hints of bright, marker style yellow. In between the colorful sugar leaves exists burnt orange, brassy pistils that provide a pleasant juxtaposition to the other, more overwhelming shades.
Due to the cannabis strain’s heavy THC content, the sugar leaves are thickly accompanied by a frosty coating that is reminiscent of heaven in the eyes of any regular cannabis consumer. People have reported that this cannabis strain is a one-hit quitter, and even experienced smokers claim that they can only take about 4 hits before feeling more than satisfied from Banana Kush.
Banana Kush Grow Info:
Banana Kush is notoriously of moderate difficulty to cultivate, luckily this phenotype is an easy giant. It may be a beneficial cannabis strain to add to your list of cultivars, especially if you are planning on entering the marijuana world on a commercial level.
The primary factor that makes this cannabis strain a little more difficult to grow than some of the simpler options, is because it thrives best within an indoors environment where it can receive a constant, steady flow of light. Additionally, for a proper yield, the plant must be trimmed regularly to promote the development of the crop. This pheno type is also a "Water-Hog", in mid to late flower 1 plant will drink up to 5 gallons per day in a light dep, hydroponics greenhouse.
Although best kept indoors, Banana Kush can be grown outside, if the correct climate conditions are met. In 2019 she went all the way until the first frost with no issues.
Outdoors, a warm and sunny environment is ideal, preferably where the plants are placed into a growing location that can receive a steady flow of sunlight & be easily covered at night.
Indoors, soil methods or hydroponics are both suitable, as long as light is closely monitored. Even if Banana Kush is an indica dominant hybrid cannabis strain, it does have a tendency to have a taller, “sativa characteristic” stature, which means indoor cultivators must install appropriate space for the plants to flourish and thrive in. This pheno will triple in size once switched to flower cycle, and produce up to 3lb per plant given it has an ideal lifecycle.
The flowering period for this crop is between 8.5-9.5 weeks, and for plants grown outside, the harvest falls around mid to late October. One silver lining- Banana Kush is surprisingly resistant to diseases and pests, making that aspect of maintenance a bit more of a breeze. If you have some experience with marijuana cultivation and remain patient throughout the process, you can be rewarded with an outstanding yield that will become well worth the efforts.
Acapulco Gold comes from Acapulco, Mexico, but the exact genetics of the strain are unknown. Acapulco Gold is a Sativa-dominant hybrid known for the golden hue of its green and/or brownish buds. Resin production is off the chart with this phenotype
As geographics go, this strain exhibits flavors native to Mexico. Plenty of citrus flavors in the range of orange and sweet grapefruit with undertones of warm caramel. It has a tendency to be a little harsh straight off the drying rack so be sure to let this strain cure for a while to increase those depth of flavors and create a smoother smoking experience.
This old strain is said to produce a powerful cerebral high that raises one's mood without producing overpowering feelings of happiness. Instead, the cerebral high mixes with a calming body high for a relaxing experience. Mild paranoia and anxiety have also been reported. Users may experience dry mouth and eyes as well as headaches from using the strain.
Sufferers of disorders such as General Anxiety Disorder or PTSD use this strain to find relief from stress and anxiety. Those dealing with depression use it to lift their mood. The body high can also relieve chronic aches and pains.
Traditionally, this strain was grown outdoors. Growing it indoors is still proving to be tricky for producers as there are no clear guidelines on how to do it. This makes the strain harder to find as more growers move their operations inside. When grown indoors, the strain flowers for 70-75 days. Outdoors, plants are ready for harvest by mid-October. There have been reports of yields up to 500 grams per square meter. Tests have shown this Acapulco Gold pheno is at 18-20% THC.
Although it has roots in California’s very own OG Kush, Alien OG is an out-of-this-world strain with a reputation all its own. This indica-leaning hybrid was created by seed company The Cali Connection as a cross between Tahoe OG Kush (itself a phenotype of the original OG Kush) and Cali Connection’s very own indica Alien Kush. Alien OG offers a soaring psychedelic high with roughly equal parts cerebral stimulation and and physical relaxation. Alien OG’s THC content can range from 20% to as much as 28%.
Like parent strain Alien Kush, Alien OG has certain mind-bending properties that make it an attractive strain for potentially trippy activities like nature walks, music appreciation, or just intense conversation. Its great taste and balanced high make it a welcome addition to the ever-expanding OG family.
This strain has a surprisingly sweet, citrus-like smell, with notes of lemon wafting up from the cured buds. There are also more subtle notes of earth and fresh pine. When combusted, flowers give off a more spicy, hashy scent typical of the OG family. The smoke is lung-expanding but very smooth. Smokers may taste hashy incense and a faint tang of ammonia on the exhale. This is one pungent strain, and its odor can linger for a while after it’s smoked; this might not be the right choice for any smokers trying to keep their consumption discreet.
The high from Alien OG is said to come on quickly as a bracing pressure behind the eyes. This head rush is accompanied by a sudden change in cognition, as thoughts race in rapid-fire association. The intensity of this cerebral effect is often determined by user’s set and setting or by their individual tolerance. In cases where a smoker is able to comfortably settle into Alien OG’s altered state, the high can take on psychedelic proportions: visual distortions like enhanced colors or peripheral flashes can happen, as can the trippy sensation of time moving more slowly. Physical relaxation sets in as the high progresses, or as users consume greater amounts. This strain can be as energetic or as relaxing as smokers intend -- as easily enjoyed out among friends as it is vegging out alone.
Alien OG’s well-rounded high also lends itself to several medical applications. Its euphoria can be a boost for those struggling with depression, while its ever-present cerebral nature can be grounding and mindful for those with stress, anxiety, or PTSD. Its palpable body stone, while not immobilizing, can be helpful in relieving chronic aches and pains and even nausea. In high enough doses, Alien OG can even be an effective means of banishing insomnia and lulling users into a deep, refreshing sleep. Because of its “racey” properties, however, this strain can sometimes lead to a kind of paranoid, recursive thinking for smokers who are inexperienced or prone to anxiety.
Alien OG’s creators at Cali Connection have made seeds of the strain available for sale. It is a moderately difficult grow, and may not be the best for newcomers to cultivation. Better grown indoors than out, this strain is known to have trouble developing a root system, and may require potting with rockwool and a significant amount of nutrients when first planted. The short, bushy plants may also require topping, by trimming large fan leaves in order to allow light and air to reach flowering nodes on the lower branches. Alien OG flowers within 8 to 9 weeks when grown indoors and offers an average yield.
This phenotype: short bushy growth, tight internode spacing for thick "donkey tail" colas, pine lemon earthy profiles, shows to be less finicky throughout grow
Girl Scout Cookies
(60% indica / 40% sativa)
By crossing two super popular strains, the underground breeding collective Cookie Family (or Cookie Fam) has been able to elevate THC levels to a whopping average of 25% to 28% and boast CBD and CBN contents to 1% as well. If that wasn’t enough to entice you, then the flavor and aroma will definitely draw you in.
There are several phenotypes of this strain that include other clever plays on the plant’s former name, such as Thin Mint and Platinum Cookies, however, GSC stands out from the pack with its bright purple leafiness and twisting greenery. Additionally, the THC content of this variation truly makes it a one of a kind experience.
At first opening of the bag the sweet, earthy aromas hit your nose and only grow sweeter as you break apart the buds. The smoke of this strain is dessert like and will certainly endear you to these light green and purple-hued buds. The fiery orange hairs and bright purple leaves make it just as pleasing to the eye as it is to the palate.
The GSC high catapults you into a wave of euphoria and tingles that encapsulate your body with very little effort. These ultra-powered buds will have you questioning space and time, while utterly gluing you to your seat. The couch lock on this is real, as are the munchies, so be sure to have a box of actual Girl Scout cookies handy for good measure. Throughout the hours-long high, you’ll experience waves of giddiness that might have you in minor giggle fits, though that will ebb and flow into introspection from time to time. This is an engaging high that may have you feeling creative, but try as you might, you probably won’t have any motivation to get anything done.
GSC has some incredibly powerful effects that are beneficial to the medical community in numerous ways. First and foremost, this is a great strain for treating chronic pain, inflammation, muscle tension, and cramps. Its highly sedative properties will have you feeling relief in no time. Additionally, many use this strain for PTSD, anxiety & as a stress reliever. The tranquilizer-like feeling of this bud puts you in a place of complete relaxation, slaying stress and even getting you ready for a good night’s sleep.
Techniques for this plant vary depending on who you ask, however, Cookie Fam suggests SOG indoors with either a soil or hydro set up. The flowering time on this plant is around 10 weeks or until the buds are plump and plentiful. The yield of this plant is about average, though in really stellar conditions you might be able to squeeze out a bit extra.
With a menacing name that hints at its powerful psychoactivity, Durban Poison is a pure South African sativa landrace. It is a bold and sticky variety that’s well adapted to a variety of growing conditions. Durban Poison boasts a THC content of between 15% and 25%. Cannabis has been cultivated on the African continent since at least the 14th century; by the era of Dutch colonization, it had spread south and the Khoikhoi, San, and Bantu groups indigenous to South Africa had an established cultivation and cultural acceptance of the drug, which they called dagga.
In the late 1970s, American breeder Ed Rosenthal selectively bred several plants from a bag of South African seeds that he brought back to the U.S. Rosenthal then passed some prime specimens on to fellow breeder Mel Frank, who fine-tuned the genetics to optimize resin content and flowering time. Frank’s efforts resulted in “A” and “B” lines of the original seed stock; the B line was given to Amsterdam breeder Sam the Skunkman, who further reduced the strain’s flowering time.
Buds of Durban Poison are medium to large in size. Although they have a dense, compact structure typical of indica varieties, their long and tapered shape is more characteristic of sativas. The forest green leaves are offset by bright orange pistils, meant to catch pollen from male fertilizing plants. A coating of milky-white trichomes gives the cured flowers a light sheen and an incredibly sticky texture.
Durban Poison has a classically dank smell punctuated by hints of sweet licorice. The flowers are pungent and skunky when broken open or burnt and give off a thick, lung-expanding smoke. The licorice aroma is evident on the exhale, along with the taste of sweet, almost cloying pine sap.
Named after South Africa’s second largest city, Durban Poison offers a chance to enjoy one of Africa’s contributions to the panoply of potent global landrace strains. It has a sweet, hash smell and a high resin content that makes it particularly valuable in the production of THC concentrates like shatter and wax.
Durban Poison has a clear, focused high that hits users right away. The amplification of sights and sounds may be initially disorienting, but in the right setting can slide into an active, buzzy head high. Almost entirely cerebral with no hints of debilitating heaviness or couchlock, this strain can be especially helpful for creative endeavors — it’s a great way to contemplate the nuances of an intense movie or a piece of music. Durban Poison can also be a strong social lubricant, helping smokers to feel chatty and more at ease.
Often likened to espresso, Durban Poison gives users a mobile and active high that’s as enjoyable at a party as it is at alone, accomplishing creative or mundane tasks.
Any medical benefits are more mental than physical — this strain can confer a sense of mindfulness that is reported to help those perpetually distracted by depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Consumers also note that it can also help those with attention deficit disorders maintain a deep, intense focus. Because it’s so potent and cerebral, Durban Poison can also have some undesirable side effects. It may put consumers into overdrive, making them feel on edge or jittery. It can also lead to a kind of rapid-association “mindrace,” making smokers feel paranoid or out of control. Definitely more suited to daytime than sleepy nighttime use, Durban Poison is a quintessential wake and bake strain. Its high typically lasts between 2 and 3 hours.
Because of its hardy and time-tested genetics, Durban Poison is a good grow for newcomers to cultivation. It can reach 12 feet in height, and as such, can be successfully grown outdoors in warm, semi-humid climates with consistent daily temperatures between 72 to 80℉. Indoor growers will want to tame Durban Poison’s height by bending and pruning the spindly branches early on in the vegetative stage. Thanks to its time-tested cultivation and internationally-engineered genetics, this strain flowers remarkably quickly for a sativa, reaching maturity in 8 to 9 weeks when grown indoors and by late September when grown outdoors. Plants also reward growers with a higher than average yield.
Man n Jack
(50% indica / 50% sativa)
Also known as Mac Herer, this strain is one of the rarer and more unique strains out there, thanks to its relative difficulty to breed, as well as the strong head high that it provides.
MAC N Jack is an evenly balanced hybrid strain (50% indica/50% sativa) created through crossing the potent MAC1 X Jack Herer strains. This celebrity child packs a super heavy high with soothing effects that are definitely best-suited for experienced patients due to its high level of potency.
Comprised of thick, lace-green nugs brightened up by white crystals, it unearths a rich, pine smell as soon as you open the bag, inviting you to take on its particularly heady high.
This bud has a classic sour citrusy flavor with a punch of woody pine upon exhale. The aroma takes after its Jack Herer parentage, with a punch of potent Pinene. MAC N Jack buds have fat and fluffy spade-shaped dusty green nugs with dark leaves, thick orange hairs and a coating of tiny milky amber crystal trichomes.
The high starts with a creeping effect, sneaking into your mind slowly before suddenly taking hold. Out of nowhere, you'll find your brain lifted into a heady unfocused state that's filled with vibrant artistic visions and happy bliss. A relaxing body high comes next, working its way slowly into your limbs and weighing them down, leaving you feeling calm and kicked back from head to toe, unable to move for hours on end.
In combination with its super high 25-30% average THC level, these potent effects give MAC N Jack an edge in treating experienced patients suffering from chronic stress or anxiety, PTSD, depression or mood swings, chronic pain and muscle spasms or cramps.
Insanely vigorous and can get out of control if not properly grown. Durban Poison stacks fairly well for such a fast growing plant. It is recommended to send her into flower earlier than a typical plant. She’ll fill in nicely durinf the first month of flower with strong vertical and lateral branching. Durban is a plant for intermediate or highly experienced grower. She does fantastic outdoors as well but…needs a the full season for max potential.
THC 18 - 20% / CBD 1%
Mystery breeders are to thank for bringing Purple Punch into our lives, as this potent bud offers a burst of flavor with effects that you’ll crave time and time again. Crossing Granddaddy Purple with Larry OG was a smart idea, as this indica-dominant strain brings forth the best in both of her parents.
Individuals who are longing for equally strong mind and body effects should give this bud a go. While she may not sound strong at a high of 20% THC, Purple Punch does also include 1% CBD and ends up hitting you like a Mack truck.
Nugs are very fluffy and bright with a neon tone to them accompanied by reddish pistils and amber trichomes. Some might describe the flavors and aromas of this bud as a punch to the face, and rightfully so, as a strong grape Kool-Aid note is present. However, this is balanced out by other delicious flavors including blueberries, vanilla, and herbs.
Your high with Purple Punch starts off with full force, as a strong cerebral stimulation will hit you just behind the eyes. Spirits are lifted with ease and you’ll almost feel like a balloon that’s floating up into the sky. As you continue to get higher and higher, both literally and metaphorically, bodily effects will kick in and help to balance things out with a heavy state of sedation. Depending on your tolerance, you may find this to be the ideal time to curl up and sleep for the night, or at the very least the point in the evening when you put on your favorite movie and space out.
Purple Punch is known for her ability to lift one’s spirits with ease, so it’s no surprise that medical users turn to her when they are down in the dumps. Both stress and depression are known to be soothed relatively quickly, and instances of bodily pain are often treated with Purple Punch. If you have a headache, cramps, muscle spasms, or nearly any other ailment, this strain may be your remedy. This bud is also potentially helpful for individuals who battle insomnia on a regular basis.
If you’ve fallen in love with this strain, there’s a good chance that you want to bring her home and make her one of your own. You’ll be happy to see a very high yield on your hands. Growing specifics are a little fuzzy with this gal, although we do know that both indoor or outdoor applications are just fine.
When you want to blast your tastebuds and also have a truly memorable cannabis experience, Purple Punch is the way to go. This bud is readily available in many places across the nation, so give this bud a try and watch all of your cares fade away.
